DescriptionPhotosVideos

Client:
Royal Flying Doctor Service

Project:
Redevelopment of Broken Hill Base to include new Medical Services, new Visitor Centre and Administration.

Client Brief:
Redevelopment visitor centre, retail area and hanger viewing area.

Project Detail:
Near to the domestic terminal at Broken Hill Airport, the RFDS base receives 50,000 visitors annually, most of whom take a guided tour. The objectives were to raise the standard of presentation to a professional level in order to increase visitation and revenue.

Overview:
The Broken Hill Base is the traditional home of the Flying Doctor Service.  The base provides aviation and medical services to the vast outback region serviced by the Flying Doctors.  In 2007 RFDS engaged HPA to master plan the redevelopment of the base and we were subsequently engaged as Principal Contractor for the Visitor Centre zone of the Project.  The focus of the project was providing cost effective new buildings to house the expanded operations as well as servicing the increased number of public visitors.

An audio-visual presentation was prepared and a forty five seat theatrette designed as the main focus of the visitor experience. The story of the RFDS has been broken down into three zones; 'Introduction and History', 'Medical Services' and 'Transportation'. A series of showcases allow the RFDS to commence collection and display of memorabilia.

Capital Project Cost: $600,000

Visitation: 50,000
